An accomplished results-driven leader with mixed experience in the nonprofit, hospitality, and finance industries, David McClymont brings a wealth of expertise to the Palm Beach Symphony where “business is business and productive business systems apply to whatever the business may be.”
A Certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt executive, Mr. McClymont has earned a solid reputation for accelerated revenue growth, operational and strategic improvements, and bold visionary initiatives in highly competitive markets. He has consulted with nonprofits, small businesses, entrepreneurs and foundations to achieve greater organizational effectiveness by providing them with business training, restructuring, and psychology-oriented business development tools.
As former President and Chief Operating Officer of Loggerhead Marinelife Center (LMC) in Juno Beach, Florida, Mr. McClymont led an organization known worldwide for its role in conserving the oceans and their endangered species, and known locally as a driver of Palm Beach County tourism. By improving the organization’s fundraising program, building efficiencies, and reducing staff and volunteer turnover, he effectively led his team to recruit record support at a time when other nonprofit organizations struggled to keep their doors open. He created a dynamic culture of fully engaged staff, volunteers, and community supporters to actively participate in reaching the organization’s goals. Under his direction, LMC’s core competencies were elevated through large-scale, strategic alliances with Conservation International, Earth Day Network, National Geographic, Sea Turtle Conservancy, The University of Miami, Vineyard Vines, Palm Beach County School District, and Florida Weekly. Mr. McClymont was instrumental in securing land and support for the organization’s future expansion.
In 2014, Mr. McClymont took the helm of Palm Beach Symphony as it was about to embark on its 41st season. Realizing the challenges of the music world, he developed a strategic vision for expanding the organization’s programming reach throughout the greater community of the Palm Beaches to increase the footprint and visibility of this world-class orchestra. His plans included the expansion of the Symphony’s education program. According to Mr. McClymont, “to succeed in business, you have to build a pipeline for the future, and that includes children.” He bolstered the Symphony’s fundraising efforts, which resulted in a $25,000 matching grant for educational outreach programming through The Paul and Sandra Goldner Conservatory of Music, a $33,000 general programming grant from the Cultural Council of Palm Beach County, and a $10,000 PNC Arts Alive Grant to support children’s education programs. In 2016, he shattered all prior fundraising records by raising more than $550,000 through a Klorfine Foundation Challenge Matching Grant. Mr. McClymont is committed to positive relationship building among patrons, board members, staff, volunteers, and community partners. He has set new standards of excellence in organizational effectiveness and customer service, and he continues to grow the business of the Palm Beach Symphony by streamlining operations, diversifying programming, increasing opportunities for young people, and making the symphony experience accessible for all.
