The Little Ice Age of 1590 to 1640 in Europe produced trees whose wood had a unique nature that gave Stradivarius' violins their special sound. It is the wooden parts of a violin that provide most of the richness of sounds, not the strings. Different woods have different resonant qualities due to their composition of cellulose for strength, acetals for flexibility, and lignin for the cohesion of growth layers.
